A Somewhat Regular Blog Series #5

Nov 27, 2019

It’s been over a month since my last catch-up, oops! Here’s what November has looked like, on and offline…

That #CatMama Life

We’ve had our kitten for over a month now, nearly two actually! He grows both in size (mostly limb length) and personality by the day and is really the sweetest, friendliest cat. He has had his vaccinations and took the giant injections like an absolute boss while I tried to stifle my giggles at him having a thermometer put up his bottom…oh the indignity! My yoga block is no longer after being chosen as a teething aide (who knew that cats have baby teeth too?!) but otherwise the soft furnishings bear no indication of a feline house mate.

Teaching Yoga

I’ve been teaching yoga full time for the last couple of weeks and I’m loving it! I was super nervous for my first class as a teacher, and also worried that teaching may not be something I enjoy in reality but the feeling after a class when someone leaves smiling, learns a new pose or just thanks me for the session is really the best. I’m starting to get used to managing my time around classes, finding the cheapest parking at the studios, working out when I fit in my own yoga practice and, most vitally, when I eat given that I’m often teaching over breakfast/lunch/dinner time. Podcasts and handbag-friendly snacks are my (less than obvious) teaching essentials.

Almost 30 Dubai

The Almost 30 Dubai chapter met for the first time this month, on what happened to be the wettest day Dubai has experienced for a LONG time. I totally forgot to get a snap of the occasion but it was so fun to chat with like-minded women and share the trials and joys of Dubai life. Join us here if you’re Dubai/UAE based!

Reading List

I’m currently reading The Unbearable Lightness of Being by Milan Kundera, a book I am honestly shocked that I’ve never got around to reading until now. I recently finished Arturo’s Island by Elsa Morrante (a coming of age tale set on the island of Procida, Italy, before the Second World War) which I loved but which had a mixed reception at my bookclub, and the very odd You Too Can Have A Body Like Mine by Alexandra Kleeman which I am still somewhat confused as to the message/purpose/what actually happened….?

What else?

I’ve nearly finished my course with the Institute of Integrative Nutrition – last week we had our final group call and it’s been so nice to connect with students in real time. I volunteered at this year’s YogaFest and had the best weekend explaining the difference between Kundalini and Kriya, taking part in a 1970s-themed class and catching up with my fellow yogis. I’m selling my macrame at ARTE this Friday and I’m really looking forward to sharing my creations and them hopefully ending up in some Christmas stockings…

How has your November been?
