A Day In My Life: Yoga Teaching Online

May 27, 2020

This post started out as a money diary back in March until, two days into me writing it, my workplace was closed due to a global pandemic and it seemed strange to continue. Given that most days are pretty much the same right now, I thought I’d condense it to just a day and give you a bit of a behind the scenes look at life lately…

7.20am – Wake up without an alarm – bliss! Grab some water, give Kit his breakfast and tidy up the living room (Kit was clearly having a 2am party here last night) in preparation for my 8am yoga class.

8am: Log into Zoom to teach a private class, my student and I chat for a bit before and afterwards.

9.15am: Breakfast! I make oatmeal with coconut milk, almond butter and blueberries and chat with Harry about our plans for the rest of the day (turns out we are both staying in). After breakfast Harry makes coffee and I make a coconut milk matcha latte.

11am: Log back into Zoom to teach a London-based student.

12pm: Stay sitting on my yoga mat and sign in to Coursera to do a bit of my Greek and Roman Mythology course. A friend and I are studying together and trying to keep ourselves motivated.

1pm: Lunch with Harry while Kit sits on the table, undecided as to whether he wants to eat any of our food.

3pm: Zoom again for a yoga class with another UK-based yogi, her sister joins in too this time! Our chat at the end is interrupted by Kit loudly

4pm: Flit between planning my sequence for a group class I’m teaching next week and editing a photo and writing a caption for Instagram. My Instagram app tells me I spend three hours a day on it…decide that this is clearly fake news.

5pm: Take a barre class on Heartcore’s IG stories. It was live at 12.30pm UK time while I was teaching. Most days I do one of these classes live and, honestly, it has been one of the highlight’s of lockdown.

5.30pm: Log back into Coursera and get two more modules done. I have to keep pausing the lecture to make sure I’m spelling all the Greek names correctly. It has been fun to study something so unrelated to my daily life and to get lost in a mythic ancient world.

6pm: I am trying to cook more in quarantine so make baked gnocchi from The Green Roasting Tin. It’s super tasty but fresh food is so pricey in Dubai that it probably would have cost the same to order in?!

7.30pm: Harry and I watch the latest episode of Killing Eve. I download the accompanying podcast.

9pm: I send out reminders and Zoom links to my three students taking yoga classes with me tomorrow. One changes the time of his class to an hour later. Update my very unsophisticated spreadsheet to log one student’s payment and to update my teaching hours. I also check the Instagram accounts to see if there are any IG live workouts I want to do tomorrow and make a note of these too.

9.30pm: Give Kit his dinner and put my laptop charger away so that he doesn’t chew it overnight.

10pm: Read a few pages of my latest bookclub read, Spinning Silver, in bed. It’s surprisingly long but it’s a fun read! Fall asleep around 11pm ready for another day…

What do your days currently look like? I have two spots left for online one-on-one classes, drop me a message if you’re interested (based on the above I’m mostly likely to see it if you DM me on Instagram?! Your first 30 minute class is free!
